That's disrespectful to their sales. To be disrespectful to someone you should first have respect which is not the case.

How is it disrespectful if the consumer doesn't buy it?

It's disrespectful to Wii U owners not to give them the option of playing a quality Wii U version.

But since when have game makers the obligation to deliver good products?

It is the responsibility of consumers to hold companies accountable to the quality of their products, otherwise they're just enabling their own exploitation.

Yes, and they do this by not buying the product or getting their money back. That's the most direct contact and the loudest voice the consumer has.
The company is only accountable to their sales and not customer satisfaction. The latter is only relevant because it is one of the main causes for low or high sales. It is however not directly connected to the company.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
