Make the guy a really low offer, like $75, or even $50,(I don't think he will have many people wanting to buy one without the pad) and if you do need the game pad, maybe you can buy one and still get the whole thing for a cheaper price than a new one... I have no idea how much a replacement game pad would cost through nintendo(or if they sell them), or if you know someone with a wiiu, perhaps you can borrow theirs ever once in a while to do the small things.. Like the system updates, or the occasional eshop purchase.
