They've done that, though. None of the "main" Sonic games (discounting portable titles and the Sonic Storybook games on Wii) have had anybody but Sonic playable since Sonic 2006 (the last one with others playable).

If anything, we need more playable characters to come back, not fewer.

Guess I've been playing the wrong sonic game then.

 

This new game looks terrible by the way. Hopefully it plays better than it looks.
