It's easy to sell when the game cost 10€ at first, later 15€, and finally 20€, compared to the 60€ or 70€ a new game can typically cost. That said, typically games go down in price while Minecraft has gone up and probably costs more than a lot of two years old games. And if you want to think about profits, think about this: Minecraft has pretty much no marketing budget, it was created by one guy, and it's being developed by a team of a couple of guys instead of a team of hundreds of people. Yeah. Creating the game didn't cost must, and ongoing development isn't expensive either. The expenses are almost neglible compared to the profit it has made.

Ignoring games that were bundled with a console is pointless. People still bought those systems BECAUSE of the game bundled with it, they bought those bundles BECAUSE of the game. The games were bundled in the first place because, in most cases, they were already popular titles, or quickly became such, making them system sellers, which is why they were bundled in the first place. The fact that they were bundled was just smart business, and it doesn't negate their popularity or selling power one bit.

Looking at it any other way is kind of naive.

I'm 99% sure there's tons of users here that didn't buy a Wii because it had Wii Sports bundled with it. There's definitely lots of people that bought the console because of the game but not everyone, and not necessarily even the majority. (My personal guess is, though, that the majority bought a Wii because of Wii Sports.)
