People keep posting that the Vita games don't appeal to the western audience. What games? Most retail games are ports that have appealed to the western audience. The system only has 20 currently released retail exclusives that you can't play on another console. If those 20 exclusives appealed to everyone, then the Vita would be in a much different situation.
If Sony actually put the effort in getting more retail exclusives on the shelves instead of developing half assed ports with framerate issues, or indie indie indie indie indie, then the Vita might actually be doing better in the west. Nothing sells systems more than an indie title people don't know the system has or a PS2 collection that people already purchased for the PS3.
*edit*
Sony is literally the worst of the three when it comes to actually bringing people what they want. At launch, they've acknowledged that people had an issue with the PSP having a lot of ports at launch and stated that they were going to push harder with the Vita to bring more exclusives to the system. What has Sony did in the two years they've supported the system? Port after fucking port. Yeah, some exclusives here and there, but many games published by Sony are ports. Last year, we have big big announcements. More ports. Epic Mickey 2, Borderlands 2, and God of War Collection being funded for development by Sony.

Sony’s marketing VP for handhelds and consoles, John Koller, said titles released on Vita need to be “unique and define the Vita experience,” and Sony is taking steps to ensure the mistakes made with PSP aren’t repeated.
“The issue that happened with PSP is we got overrun with ports,” he said. “It became very difficult for us to define what made PSP unique. The content development became a bit unstructured or decentralized, in that we got a lot of content that was on PlayStation 2 and got thrown over to the handheld."
