The PS1 generally did have better audio.

64 actually had the better audio chip, though, it just didn't had better "audio" thanks to the lack of capacity on cartridges.

Hold on. Didnt N64 have exactly the same capacity as CD? It was the first ever cartridge to have 64 channels for Sound. Same as CD.
