So the strong point of the Genesis were: - Slightly higher screen resolution - The ability to draw much more sprites on the screen before flickering and slow downs occured (compared to a stock SNES) - Very fast Motorolla 68000 CPU (compared to other affordable consoles of the time) it allowed for raster effects in software that sometimes seemed close enough to "mode 7 effects" in some cases |
@bolded: had to do something I usually don't - sign in from work - just to contradict this particular point: how come it could have better resolution? The totals SNes could achieve was 512x448, waaaaayyy ahead of the max 320x448Genesis could produce. And that in a time TVs were practically all square things SNes was already investing in some widescreen differences. F-Zero was a launch title and the game SHINED on the screen, whereas Streets of Rage (a game I love and that, if I remember correctly, came by the same time) was granulated all over.
