Anybody noticed Nintendo's basic hardware strategy is to stay one generation behind?

The one thing where Nintendo failed recently is to really "wow" people. The 3DS and the Wii U are nice and all but they lack something truly new and unique. But from what I'm hearing lately, Nintendo is right in the middle of finding a new revolution, whatever the hell it will turn out to be.

Nobody needs a third console that is basically the same as the others. So Nintendo is doing everything right in terms of the power of their consoles. It's enough to make the games look not too outdated and it guarantees a small price tag.

Regarding the bolded, you are wrong. They have been making consoles for a long time and I dont see them being unable to make a $400 console which has specs between the ps4 and X1 without turning out a profit at the same time. 

I do agree with you that that may not necessarily get gamers to buy their consoles but it may be worth a try. Especially if their console is still profitable to manufacture and sell.
