DKCTF was very much set and confirmed for a holiday 2013 release. They better not screw this up. Such long waits between games... :/

Nintendo would have to be insane  to delay Smash Bros 4 to 2015. Not only would it hurt Wii U's sales during the holiday season ( Smash Bros 4 would also miss huge sales during the holiday season), but it would also make the  wait for the Smash Bros 4 much longer than necessary.

Yes, well, they've gone 2 holiday seasons without Mario Kart on Wii U too, which passes as insane, imo.

Mario Kart on Gamecube and Wii both missed 2 holiday seasons so its just following the trend of console Mario Kart releasing 1.5-2 years after console launch.

GameCube is Nintendo's lowest selling console ever, and widely considered a failure, and Wii was on fire anyway, with or without MK. Wii U could've very, very much done with MK8 at launch or during its second holiday on th market.

And u think Nintendo knew Wii U would be selling poorly at this point? In order to get Mario Kart 8 out in time for holiday 2013 they would have had to bump the game up 6 months which would have given us a Mario Kart 7 scensrio where it feels rushed.

Mario Kart 7 released holiday 2011 and I assume developers take a small break before jumping right into making a new game so lets say they started development January 1, 2012. That would give the Mario Kart team less than 2 years to make a game on new hardware while also making there first HD game. Yeah its possible but it would have been rushed and not up to standards.

Whatever the case, my point remains the same - it's insane to have gone so long without a Mario Kart, in Wii U's case.

Imo they could very easily have gotten the game out in time for holiday 2013; instead of taking an extra 6 months with the same team to finish it, they could for example have brought in extra people and increased the team's size, which would effectively have lead to the same end result (a finished game), only 6 months sooner.

Granted, it would've been more expensive to bring in extra people, yet I doubt half a year's worth of extra development time would be much cheaper. Right? In case they didn't have enough manpower in-house, they could've gotten a 2nd party to help, or even a 3rd party (they're no stranger to that and have done in countless times before. Iwata even officially stressed a few times recently their commitment to outsourcing projects to outside studios). Nothing wrong with such actions, and no need to 'rush' anything that way: same workload, just faster because more people work on it. Also, it's not like Nintendo are Capcom or something; they do have to resources to pull it off, easily. Not to say such a scenario is the way to go for all or even most games, far from it in fact, but in MK8's case it was very much needed.

The above is imo, of course, but I can't see how it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I see where ur coming from but at what point should they have decided to bump it up? Its not like Nintendo knew Wii U sales would be bad and during the first half of 2013 it was reasonable to assume it was due to lack of sotware releases.

The second half of 2013 had Pikmin 3, New Super Luigi U, Wonderful 101, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Wind Waker HD, Sonic Lost World, Wii Sports Club, Mario & Sonic Sochi Olympics, Super Mario 3D World and mulitplats like Splinter Cell, Disney Infinity, Skylanders, Rayman, Just Dance, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Batman Arkham Origins plus new bundles with more value and increased advertising.

With all of that released in the second half of the year it didnt seem like they absolutely needed Mario Kart. Another thing to consider is what would they have for Spring 2014 if Mario Kart was a holiday title? Donkey Kong in Febraury followed by what?
