They are looking to branch out into new profit streams (QoL) and will ride this storm out in the mean time. His comments about future intergration of handheld/consoles basically confirms to me a future Nintendo game machine that is basically either a hybrid platform of sorts. I think Nintendo's already moved on to focus on this and the QoL thing as their new future dual pillars. |
I dont think they will leave the Wii U at all. They have alot of development studios. More than enough to work on these pet projects. They are not gonna fire the rest of them, so its safe to assume they will continue to support the Wii U and the 3DS. Actually thats where the A&M strategy comes to.
Actually, this is a diversification strategy, that has nothing to do with the videogames market. They will be entering new markets where they have competitive stregths and they will remain on the console market aswell. This so they can maximise profits and reduce risks. This future Nintendo machine they are talking about, will not be a machine for hardcore gamers, or gamers at all. It will not be competing with the Wii U or the 3DS aswell.
These strategies Nintendo is using are pretty sensible and its an exciting time for the company to see all these doors open (from a management point of view). They are no longer just sitting on their old laurels, they are moving to make things happen.
