It does matter. Console sales are going to be down this generation, mostly because of Nintendo's big drop from last generation. You want a healthy console market, and when you have only three main hardware companies, I don't think it's good for any of them to fail. And it's not like it's easier for other companies to join the market. Look at Ouya. Plus the people who bought Wiis last generation are not necessarily going to buy a One or PS4, they may just buy nothing this generation or stick to smartphones/tablets. They may never return to the market. That's not good for consoles.
