Not even close Xbox destroyed Gamecube. But see the Op edit.

Xbox did not "destroy" Gamecube. It was more powerful, but the gap was a lot smaller than most people think.

The Xbox was a beast, really. It had a state of the art Intel Processor clocking in at 733 MHz where the gamecube had nothing more than 485 MHz. 64 MB RAM doubled the PS2 and were still considerably more than the 40 MB of the Gamecube. Then you have more than double memory rate on top of an graphics chip that was almost twice as fast as Nintendo's. A Pixel Fillrate five times faster than the Gamecube speaks for itself. And let's not forget about the faster DVD Drive and the hard drive.

The Gamecube was a nice piece of hardware, but no match to the then totally overpowered Xbox.

edit: Or if you want Gigaflops, it's something like 13 for the Xbox vs 10 for the Gamecube. Sounds like nothing today but was a hell of a difference back then.
