It depends. Some games are best multiplayer-only, some games are best single-player-only. I bet most 7th gen games that had multiplayer would have been better off without multiplayer.
Anyway, nothing beats a good single-player experience. Multiplayer just isn't there quite yet. Player interaction is what's good about multiplayer games but ironically, it's also what's preventing them from becoming deep and memorable experiences.
