And I'm prepared to state that I think they KNOW they can't afford that kind of shit. All three of those games will see 2014 release, as will the third unnamed Sonic game, as will, likely, 2-3 other games we have not yet heard about, as will Hyrule Warriors. They know they need to get as many games out on this platform as possible, and they know they need to advertise the fuck out of it as well. I'm just as disappointed that MK8 isn't coming out AT LEAST in April also. I was personally hoping for March.
BUT, I will say this. We've all seen the pics and footage of this Mario Kart. This isn't Mario Kart Wii or Mario Kart 7. The reaction to those games when they were revealed was positive, like "Oh cool". But it wasn't "OH SHIT". MK8's reveal garnered an "OH SHIT" from a lot of people, myself included. It isn't just the graphics, though that is one key factor. It's obvious they're actually taking advantage of that hardware this time around. MK has had the same basica graphical look from MKDD, to MK Wii, to MK7. They haven't tried all that hard to really change the look or TRY To have a Mario Kart that takes advantage of a system's graphical power since, as much as I hate the game, Double Dash. This is the first MK since DD to actually look like a big LEAP, and not just another step, for the MK series.
The graphics (and those were unfinished demo graphics even) look superb, and the track designs look BIG, and fresh, and new, and inventive. It looks like they're really going all out for this game, and the hope would be that the amount of on-disc (blu ray capacity mind you) content will also reflect that. Point being, if we're LUCKY, MK8 will be the closest thing we've gotten to an "Ultimate Mario Kart" since MK64. So maybe THAT is "what's taking them so long".
Of course they do need at least one other game for March/April. DKCR2 is gonna be great, but they STILL need to provide something else to keep that momentum moving before MK8 comes out. And hopefully we'll get an ND video soon to tell us just WHAT that might be, and get some other release dates besides, so that people can quit flipping out and have a clearer picture of what 2014 (outside of obligatory E3 surprises) is going to look like.
