God of War Ascension and GT6 (they could have called it something else) should have been psvita titles. They should have put more pressure on their first party studios to make vita titles. Aren't they working for them anyway, as in they are their employees? They should have given incentives to big 3rd parties to port some of their big games (Agito/type-0, Monster Hunter Frontier, even a smaller version of FF 13) to the vita. They could have paid Namco for a Tekken. So many missed opportunities. All the vita needed was SOME hype; all it got was Gravity Rush and Uncharted. After that, no matter how cool Tearaway was, it couldn't change people's minds. |
I mentioned my piece about God of War, though I think Ascensions was on PS3 as its swan song. GT 6 needed to just get completed, though they should make a new Vita title for it I agree, but I honestly don't think Polyphony can work on two games at once (Look at GT on PSP). They did make first party titles, I mentioned they put all their franchises minus 2 on the Vita (Well and Twisted Metal). They gave incentives to third parties, think Ubisoft and Activision made their Vita titles because they wanted to? Street Fighter X Tekken most likely was paid for by Sony. EA put their titles on the Vita, and despite alright sales, it wasn't enough for them to make more. And if the smaller titles (Epic MIckey, Borderlands) are the only titles
Sony can get out of third parties, what more can they do? Tekken isn't a system seller anymore, and it hasn't been since Tekken 5 (Look at Tekken 6 and Tag 2 sales). Hell Tekken 6 didn't move any copies on PSP despite Tekken 5 on PSP selling a lot. So what are these lost opportunities? The VIta launched with a strong lineup that lasted well over the year and then some. Japan initially sided with Niintendo (Cause god forbid they make multiplatform titles) and now they've sided with Apple so all that's left are smaller titles (Which are coming back in droves). It's not like the effort wasn't there, it was, they just didn't make any returns. Why should they pump another billion into Vita if the market isn't there? (Note my piece about NIntedo and the shrinking handheld market). Like, I want more Vita titles, but we have to face the reality of the business. Sony isn't and won't make money on the Vita, bar some miracle (Like Monster Hunter was with the PSP).
