Oh no no no. That's a pretty silly thing to say.

These types of leaks (if real) do lots and lots of damage. This is all hurting Microsoft and their partners.

I'm going off of what he said.

  • Why all the leaks? Scared you might get caught? "I am incapable of fear. Plus, this is such exciting stuff, and me talking about it ahead of time isn't going to hurt anything, truthfully. We're all chomping at the bit for it to come out. This is not bad. "
How does it hurt MS?

If it's an inside job then yeah of course it doesn't hurt them.

If it's a real leaker it's costing millions of dollars. Microsoft's competition is getting very juicy information that will help in strategic planning. Knowing Halo 5 isn't launching this Holiday in itself is very valuable knowledge. Sony and Nintendo know a bunch of other release dates too such as Fable, Gears, and Crackdown. This is insanely valuable knowledge if true.

Also there's all the lost hype for the consumers. There's a reason the night before E3 Phil Spencer doesn't tweet all the game announcements in advanced. Advertising these AAA games costs millions of dollars and every step of the campaign is calculated. Leaks screw up those schedules and force last minute changes in the plan.

Plus it just bums out the guys working on these things. It's such a heavy feeling when you learn one of your projects was leaked. Remember how bummed presenters look when the thing was leaked a few days before? Titanfall was leaked right before E3 and Cranky Kong right before VGX. Did Reggie and the Microsoft presenter come out saying "You know I'm really happy you already know what I'm about to tell you." ?
