I wasn't aware people bought games based on development time. No wonder FF13 sold so well.

The fact remains that even if the sequel comes out in a years time it will be nearly 5 years after a game that sold 1 million copies. There efforts would be put to better use making a new IP.

8 months dev time = not a great game. 1.5m - 2m is fine for a game if it's budgeted around that. You sound like EA.
