I think hes getting too hung up on the word realistic. Nobody is saying its photorealistic or anything like that but the characters in Ocarina/Twilight have realistic body proportions compared to Link in Wind Waker whos eyes take up half his face and his head is bigger than his body. It also has more realistic coloring since not everything in real life is extremely bright.

And yes a cartoon can look realistic, for example lets take a show like Bubble Guppies and compare it to Legend of Korra. Both are cartoons but one is striving for a more realistic feel.
