Nintendo hasn't found a way to sell that Wii U Tablet controller. There's no game that utilizes in a way you are just drawn to it. Wii remote was great, but Wii U controller, no one gets it. Developers don't know any interesting ways to make people get it.

This is going to be a very turbulent generation for Nintendo. 3DS is their safety cushion to break the Wii U freefall.

As a long time Nintendo fanboy, I'm very very concerned and I'm sure Mr. Iwata is even more concerned.

There's nothing to "Get". It's a regular game controller. With a touch screen, that also acts as a second gaming screen. It's literally no different in concept or ultimate function than the DS. And people nor developers were not "confused" about the DS. It was a smashing success. And big surprise, it had a lot of great games that pushed console sales. Developers shouldn't treat the GamePad any different than the DS. It's the same damn thing, just implemented in a home console. Also, Wii U isn't "Freefalling". It had started a decent recovery in the last few months of 2013. People were thinking rationally and recognizing that fact before the goddamn Japanese financial report came out. Because Nintendo themselves set their sales estimates too high, their net profit forcasts tanked.

But in reality, they're NOT in that dire of straights, and with a steady flow of games like DKC and Mario Kart leading the way in 2014, things will level out just fine.

Or, if you prefer, the sky is falling, you'd better duck.

It's not a 'regular game controller'. It is EVERYTHING Nintendo banked on for Wii U's success. It was their trump card and people didn't care for it. Yes, sales picked up recently because the price cuts were massive with great bundles, but now it has gone back to slow sales.

The gamepad is different than the DS because with DS you can manipulate two screens at the same time whereas Wii U you either look up or down. So development considerations change because of this.

DKC, MK may bring some attention back for a very limited time. They cannot carry this console. You need original thirdparty ideas that really bring the best out of the gamepad or else you will continue to have the attitude among consumers that the gamepad is not all that. Nothing is more detrimental to the sales of Wii U than people not taking the gamepad seriously.
