While playing only for trophies would be hilarious, you gotta admit that they are *sometimes* a nice incentive for completion.

Me and my friend compete to see who can get the most, thats the only reason i care about them at all. 

More fun to compete for points in some 16-bit two player games I know what you mean, though.
