As an american and a european I have to say I don´t copletely disagree with him... but you can say the same about europeans, wii fanboys and 360 fanboys, lots of smart americans care about the big picture, as do smart europeans, but many don´t, thats not an american or european thing, it goes for everyone, as for fanboys they always take the evidence that supports their theory and ignore the evidence that goes against it... thats just the way things are, no big deal...
@ pooper: you can care about local problems and still be interested in global issues, just because they don´t affect you personally doesn´t mean they aren´t important (at least thats how I see it), if you don´t care at all about global issues you might miss out on poblems that effect the hole world, earth has become much more global in the last hundred years and many problems need the attention of everybody to get solved...
