No game deserves to bomb; especially those who are made by developers with "such a huge fanbase". The game may have been crap, which I disagree because it was a 6/10 game, but a "fanbase" should stay strong and purchase the game regardless these things happen. Microsoft didn't purchase Insomniac, though. After they revealed Sunset Overdrive, didn't Insomniac reveal Ratchet & Clank: into the Nexus?

But why would insomniacs fanbase buy fuse, overstrike was what they liked, the colourful cartoony characters and world with alot of expandable potential. After that it just looked like another shooter. It was fun but I felt cheated for £40.
