I plan to buy the PS3. A few reasons I am choosing the PS3 over the 360, in no order:

- BLU-RAY PLAYER:
Because Blu-ray has won the war and I can rent the BR discs through Blockbuster. I will get a lot of use out of the PS3 as a BR player. Also doesn't it up-convert DVD's?

- FREE ONLINE PLAY:
I mostly play BF2 and COD4 on PC. I play online for free and prefer the PC online play to XBox Live. I already pay for high speed internet I don't want to pay a few extra dollars a month just to play Live. I may play a ton one month, then almost nothing the next. The month to month cost is too high in my opinion and buying 1-year may end up with many months wasted. I have heard tons of great things about Live, but I am not impressed with what I have seen hands on. Finding and joining games on the PC is much better and I don't run across so many kids cussing and talking sh*t all the time. Its one thing to mute a player from time to time, its another to have to mute many players every game. I have not played the PS3 online, but from what I have read, its not as bad.

- GAMES:
Im interested in GTAIV and Resident Evil 5, which will be available on both systems. I would like to know what the GTAIV DLC is and what other differences there are, but it would have to be pretty huge to change my mind at this point. I would also like to try out Midnight Club LA (Dub Edition was fun), which is also available on both systems. There are no other games that really draw my attention at this time. I mostly rent games and only buy them if I think Ill play the sh*t out of them.

- DEPENDABILITY:
I know people who have had the 360 Red Ring of Death and also have friends who know people who have had the Red Ring of Death. Also seems like the 360 might scratch discs easily as I know of this happening. I moved my PS2 around a lot with disc in and running and never had a problem, even had it knocked over and no problem. So far the PS3 seems to be dependable so why risk getting an exciting game and having to send in your console for repair, waiting 2-3 weeks for return. I plan to buy my console and accessories from out of state to save the sales tax. Don't plan to buy extended warranty. If I was going to buy local it would be Sam's Club because of their return policy, but I would have to pay the sales tax (around $40).

Free online play is the reason why I buy no online games for the 360. Basic online play has been free for ages and I for one refuse to pay money to play with my friends in a game I already paid for. It is strictly for RPG's and the occassional shooter like Bioshock which has no online because the single player mode is SOLID. That and the fact that MS points are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. 500 MS points wound up costing me $6.74 along with a $1 charge fee... almost $8 just to rent one movie in HD. For $6 more I get my Netflix account with unlimited Blu Ray rentals as well as free online instant viewing. Without the absurd 24 hour limit once you hit play.

Redbox costs me $1 for a movie rental that lasts 24 hours. LIVE honestly is a rip off.
