Damn if I would be as rich as their investor I would also do stuff similar to this. Telling a "small" studio which is working on a game I'm interested in that I will help them to get much bigger and make a great game as long as I see that there is also potential to get at least parts of my investments back (an expected loss would be also no prob for me as long as it wouldn't be too much) so that they would have to reach a goal on Kickstarter. Pretty nice idea :)
But if I would be that rich I would be probably not such a gamer interested in this stuff...
