As far as I know, the only current BR player that can adapt to the 2.0 standard is the ... PS3.
That could be why people are buying the PS3. And comparing hardware and software sales in Others last week appears to support this contention. Also, the PS2 sold well in Japan early on because -- in part -- it was the least expensive DVD player available.
