Captain Phillips was pretty good. I liked it despite the usual Hollywood hero adjustments. The story might not be accurate, but the authenticity of the visuals and procedures certainly are. I'm a sucker for details and this movie didn't disappoint. They hired a freight ship (sister ship of the actual ship) and did all the filming on board, most out at sea. Filming inside the life pod was a big challenge and it paid off. Just be sure to watch it in a completely dark room, any ambient light will blot out half the detail in a lot of scenes.

Sound design was excellent, all the ambient surround effects do a great job at drawing you into the movie.

Usually the ending kinda falls flat in these kind of movies, but not this time. Tom Hanks is finally allowed to become human for the last 30 minutes and the last scene in the infirmary, which wasn't even planned, is a brilliant way to end the movie. 8/10

The extras were fun too. Paul Greengrass asking the engineer, what can my guys do in the engine room, they need to look busy at departure. Engineer: Erm nothing, everything is set. Paul: Can they can turn these handles over here. Engineer: Then when an engineer sees the movie he'll be scratching his head, why are they activating the toilet flush. Paul: Just press some buttons over there then. Engineer: Sure, that doesn't do anything anyway.
