I don't think the gap will widen. I don't even think the games will advance much beyond this point. The PS4 has a very simple and straight forward architecture. Nothing you would have to get the kinks out. The X1 has more potential to advance because of the uncomfortable and complex architecture.
I'm not saying that it will close the gap or will ever have experiences on par with PS4 but there are possibilities to make the games run better with lots of optimization.

You have a valid point. My guess would be that the X1 gets the PS3 treatment from multiplats because of its uncomfortable and complex architecture. Sounds like what we heard about the cell.

THIS...but here's the difference.  PS3/360 multiplat last gen would not be necessarily a resolution difference, but added "tricks" to the 360, like slightly accurate colors, or a slightly more stable frame rate (24-26, versus 26-28).  Kinda like going to a restaurant and preferring one appatizer over another.  Understandable.  But this generation difference (so far) seems to be more of a difference of 1080p to 720p, or 30fps to 60fps.  That's...BIG.  Like as if you had a choice of an appetizer versus the main course... :o  That's no contest, for me...
