There remains precious little to say about Insomniac's gaudy, gory Sunset Overdrive, but we do have a few new concept artworks to chew over. They're new to me, anyway. Additionally, community web developer Tim Salvitti has clarified that the game isn't, in fact, an MMO, though it does have some rather impressive-sounding online features.

"This is not a MMORPG," Salvitti observed over on the Insomniac forums last month. "It will have a story and a campaign. It is an open-world, 3rd person action game if you want to categorize it." The game isn't online-only either, though Insomniac is "intrigued" by what's possible using the Xbox One cloud.

According to studio boss Ted Price, Sunset Overdrive's colourful city isn't "just an open world - it's a living world. The idea is that we're updating the game on a regular basis," he told OXM at E3 last year. "Not just updating it with stuff that we want, but also by what players tell us, and inspired by what players are doing in the game.

"Adding or changing weapons based on what players tell us is an opportunity we haven't really had during the current generation. Because if you want to put out regular updates, you have to jump through a lot of hoops. So our intent is not to just to offer new weapons, but new gameplay features that change up the environment." Such features might include outbreaks of unseasonable weather, or an explosion of enemies.

"We want players to talk about what happens in the game, get really engaged and connected, because they never know what's going to happen, but they have an influence," Price concluded.

Thirsty for more? Alas, Insomniac has nothing further to share for the moment, as discussed in faintly absurd style on Twitter.
