This is a lot easier said than done. Out of the 3 titles I've played (2D mario, WW HD, 3D mario), the later 2 required the gamepad to some degree I believe. Sounds like a big headache rewriting software. Not to mention titles currently in development that are planning to use it.
On top of all that, barring some ergonomics, I like the pad. Very cool to be able to set up a game while my GF watches the end of an episode on TV. Also makes the system seem higher end than it is. Something different from the other two, etc.
Personally, I think no game pad means no Wii U.
