Well I believe that a GTX 780M, which is the most powerful mobile card on the market is at something like half the card mentioned in the specs at ~2.3TFLOPS. Give it 3 or 4 years, plus the ability to push the card faster than in a laptop due to superior cooling of the console form factor and I think it would be doable, but I agree that it would be expensive. It would still be viable, but far more expensive than recent Nintendo consoles and I don't know if they want to abandon their place as the cheapest option in the market It's difficult to speculate on price though as the 780M doesn't seem to be available for purchase on its own |
That's just it, though. In terms of raw performance, the upper limits on what we see at the absolute highest bleeding edge of gaming laptops is still around 660Ti levels. Given how much performance lags behind on mobile GPUs compared to full sized graphics cards, I suspect that the level of performance stated here will expensive even 4 years from now.
I can't see Nintendo being the ones to push that when they've been so hellbent on undercutting their competitors on price since the N64 days. MAYBE Sony and MS, but not Nintendo.
