Not likely.  They'd have to look up the IP in the database and chances are good that it would come up with multiple users simply because of the way ISPs rotate IP addresses.

I only know that i saw  mods saying from time to time "we made an ip check and it wasn't the same" when people thought someone has an alternate account. but that probably only happens if someone is a troll and a user of another account is acting exactly the same so yeah, you should be right.

That is true.  They'll compare if users are suspected of being an alt but they won't check every ban just because it's likely other IP's will pop up that come from actual different users.   I've been an admin for years.  I've seen some addresses get used by dozens if not hundreds of separate users.  This is why IP banning is a bad idea.  You can potentially knock out many legit users   That and there are easy ways to get a new IP address or use a free proxy.
