The "Nintendo needs to go 3rd party" message has been going on since the Wii was selling well.

Even before then.   I've heard calls for it during the N64 days.  From gamers, the media and analysts.

I remember the GC was supposed to be Nintendo's last console too. Nintendo forever doomed.
