This sounds serious though, I don't think is just some minor modification to how Nintendo does things. 

Didn't Nintendo just finish a new building to house their console R&D teams? Seems like a huge waste to stop making consoles now. I think they'll at least try with a tablet, phone or something we've never seen before, and unless the one they choose does work, they'll do something like Steam.
