Wii U is currently struggling at its $299 price point, for $100-200 less u can get a PS3/360/Wii which have much bigger libraries and for $100-200 more u can get PS4/One which are much more powerful, have better 3rd party support, better online/mulitmedia features and all the hype in the world. Its kinda stuck in the middle, late adopters/casuals/families/people on tight budgets will choose 7th gen consoles and the early adopters/hardcore/techies/people with disposable income will choose PS4/One. One way to help fix this problem is to get the price down sooner rather than later. At $199 its much closer to 7th gen consoles and may be able to sway those who would regularly be late adopters and would be 40-50% the cost of Its fellow 8th gen consoles which could make it a nice secondary console to those who own them. The big problem is that the last time we heard from Nintendo, the Wii U was still selling at a loss meaning at $199 they would be losing alot of money. They have also stated that getting the manufacturing cost down was a big goal of theres so I wouldnt be surprised to see a redesign this year that is less expensive to manufacture. Im not sure what exactly they would have to do to accomplish this but I think a smaller/sleeker Gamepad that costs less to build would help alot, maybe about the size of the Vita. Lets say sometime in October they release the Wii U redesign bundled with Mario Kart 8 (will be about 6 months old by then) for $199, how well would this sell?

The Wii U is fine just how it is, if you owned one, you would know that.

Plex in 1080p HD through the web browser playing practically every file-format known to man, NintendoTVii and it's stellar sports community, a slew of Rated-M games (since that is all anyone cares about anymore,)  probably more exclusives coming in 2014 then both other major home consoles combined, free online, Miiverse, 7 different control schemes including Mayflash Gamecube adapter, homebrew and a debian-based linux OS currently being worked on, and it's cheaper.

I feel sorry for you for being so uneducated and worthless at researching...

More opinions from non-gamers who only own one system and have no idea what they are talking about...

I have to add on to this. You smug bro dudes are so diluted that you cannot even see that your precious xb1/ps4 specs are outdated by years and are laughable in any legitimate PC gaming circle. The "leap" in graphics is almost not even noticeable by a large extent compared to these "last-gen" RROD and YLOD failures of consoles. You guys sit here and brag about graphics and games when you barely have either. The mentality of most of you is that of pre-pubescent 12-year olds just wahcking off for the first time thinking they know evertything...

I know if I ever need a laugh, just come here and listen to all of the uneducated, idiotic, ridiculous, nonsensical garbage that comes spewing out of all of your mouths...

Wow thanks for being a total prick, if u cared to actually do some research u would see that im one of Nintendos biggest supporters on these forums and probably a good 75% of my posts are defending them and saying positive things about them. For me personally the Wii U is fine at its current price and will be my first 8th gen console but there is no denying that its current sales are absolute shit.

The entire point of this thread is how can Nintendo help improve sales, distancing itself from PS4/One in terms of price is one way they can acconplish this. I never said Wii U has bad multimedia features or bad online, only that the competition has more/better.

Bluray player+500gb storage+extra power+3rd party support+more established online network makes the PS4 a bettet value for the majority of consumers despite being $100 more.

I dont why ur so offended that im offering constructive criticism for Wii U. Its a great console but its a fact that sales are poor and thats with plenty of sequels to multimillion selling franchises. Nintendo makes most of there money from software sales but u cant sell software if u dont sell the hardware. Lowering the price of entry will increase hardware sales which in turn will cause software sales to grow and give more people an opportunity to play the great games Nintendo makes.
