Well GT3: A-Spec came out in April 2001 and GT4 arrived in December 2004, so over 3 and a half years. I'd say that's certainly longer than most games nowadays, though that might just be because we're now used to every game under the sun getting multiple annual sequels
GT5 (not Prologue) came out in November 2010, so that was nearly 6 years and GT6 came out in December 2013 so 3 years on.
I think it might just be because of how other series have only got faster in releasing, so whereas it used to be nicely spaced out it now feels like an age even though it's actually about the same other than GT5. So in theory GT7 should be with us in 2016 if you discount 5
Hopefully it takes the pressure off PD and allows them to finally abandon their old car models whilst providing Sony with another potentially successful IP
