Ok so this is the method krik was referring to, and I'll explain why its a horrible method. Basically he goes to each region and does it from the launch of the PS3 specifically. As you can see even this method supports the points I made in my last post.

Japan:

ConsoleWiiPS3X360PS2
Japan
5,495,842
1,973,943
414,931
1,176,052

America:

ConsoleWiiPS3X360PS2
America
9,730,065
4,249,855
7,838,110
7,087,195

Others:

ConsoleWiiPS3X360PS2
Total Others
5,818,107
4,512,586
2,683,669
3,918,032

So for this post I will explain why this method of comparison is faulty.

Now the first problem with this comparison is that all of the data points start on strong weeks for the PS3. The fact that the launch had large stagger is a bad thing from a business and consumer viewpoint but this comparison rewards it by framing it up like everything is just roses and sunshine.

Where this is really skewing the matter is the simple fact is that any pent up demand for the PS3 due to a staggered launch has been taken care of because it has been widely available in all regions for quite some time. So what you're really doing is cutting out all of the PS2 sales from Europe/Others during that period and the PS3 gets all the sales it would have had anyways since the demand is held over until the launch.

By comparing from the launch you've not only stacked the deck in favor of the PS3 but against the PS2. Pick a date...compare all of the consoles its really simple.

The least flawed comparison we can make is actually to choose a point after the launches for all regions are done. But like I said I don't think that fits your vision of what this thread should be:

From the first week in April '07

ConsoleWiiPS3X360PS2
Total
16,627,936
7,965,546
8,151,640
8,482,991

I didn't include Wii and 360, WTF? It does not matter if it starts at PS3's hot dates since the idea is to INCLUDE ALL THE PS3 SALES. Got it?

One more time: I did not compare the PS3 with Wii or 360, just PS3 vs PS2.

First, I didn't say that you did include the 360 or Wii comparisons. I added them into the comparison because I found it interesting and frankly adding them was quite simple so I did so.

Second, the point behind your comparison is really moot if the method itself produces a result that is skewed in the first place. If you're trying to say that you wanted a skewed result then by all means I apologize for intruding. But if you want a valid result and a meaningful picture of how the two have sold relative to each other at these different points in their lifetime my input is spot on...like it or not.

And one more time right back at you, I didn't say that you did make that comparison.

My data is comparing PS3 sales to PS2 sales for EVERY WEEK the PS3 was on sale on each region. I simply used the proper launch dates for each region but you seem to think it's actually better to just use the Japanese launch date  WW even when it preceeds the NA launch date by a few weeks and the European/Others date by almost 6 months... oh well, I really don't know what to do anymore, you don't seem to get it so just leave it man.
