Is this a surprise to anyone? All consoles are doing it more and more, since the PS2 was also a DVD player.  Xbox was also a DVD and media (music) player.

PS3 has blu-ray, streaming and other stuff. WiiU has TVii, etc.

It's like all smart phones are also watches, cameras, video recorders, wallets, etc. We are moving to fewer devices, but those devices will do many things.

If Microsoft thinks television is going to expand the gaming market they've got another thing coming. They are aiming for a whole other generation. People under the age of 35 are straying so far away from TV that its not even funny. Sony and Nintendo need to be applauded for their contributions to expanding the gaming market naturally by using things people actually use. Microsoft doesn't have a clue. It seems like they are so desperate to own the living room that they want to force it onto people. As much as I love the Xbox One the Cable portion of it wont be its major selling point even though its useful.

I am going out on a limb here.  I don't think including TV on the Xbox One is designed to expand the gaming market.  It's to expand the versatility and usefulness of the console and help steer more people to use the console.  In the same way, having a HD Skype Machine with a noise reduction microphone array included in your console - when others are selling stand alones at $200 is quite practical and a nice feature.

I'm not following you on the 'force people to use it.'  It's an option.  Personally I'm cutting my cable - and made myself and little antennae.  But I can still get a channel list from Microsoft, which is a nice really thing to get.

What has Nintendo and Sony added that people use, that Microsoft hasn’t?  Not sure where you are going with that one.  Microsoft gives away Free Xbox SmartGlass, so you can use a phone/tablet you already own with their device.  (Not forcing you to buy a separate one.)  It’s added value to things you already have.

I get the cable features might not appeal to most people hear, but that doesn’t make them irrelevant to many others out there.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!
