I watched Dark star today on my old 34" flat screen CRT, using ps2 for a dvd player. That suited that movie perfectly. Originally filmed on 16mm, they didn't make any attempts in cleaning up the picture. With heavy grain, scratches and other visible damage on the print, it felt like being back in a small art house theater in the early 90's.
Dark star is John Carpenter's first full length movie (didn't know that until I checked on IMDB) A low budget comedy about a small crew on a 20 year mission in space, blowing up unstable planets. It's not a great movie, but it has a certain 'can't stop watching' charm. 6/10
