The funny thing is that its more then twice what the budget of the actual movie was which is $10.5 million according to wikepedia. Also by the time they got approached for it the movie most likely already turned a profit at the box office since it made over $353 million domestically in its first run and was profitable after 8 days. It had so much merchandise that I'm sure that it made over $100 million from that in 1982 alone.
