Apple said Samsung was copying them because their phone had a screen and buttons... Apple also won the lawsuit...

Apple were suing for the likeness, not that it had a screen and buttons.

Apple was suing on the basis that they have a patent on "rounded corners with a button" for phones.  With that said, there's a reason they didn't win outside of the U.S.
