Nothing brings back Wii U from the dumpster it is in, up to being the market leader. My original prediction for it was same as yours - between N64 and 40 millions, now I don't even think it can reach N64 levels, not after a freaking 3 million selling year, plus I think Nintendo won't ride it off for too long, kill it prematurely and have a successor on holiday 2016. If they won't get a lucky golden shot like with the Wii, I expect it to be another flop. Maybe they will make the speculated console/handheld hybrid, that may work.
But yeah, of course it's still an open race between Xbone and the PS4 considering how relatively close they are to each other. It's just that everything points to the PS4. Xbone is dead on arrival in Japan, so at the end of the gen there should be maybe even 10 million PS4s more there. And I honestly don't see the Xbone doing better in Europe, it's not a "Japan" situation but for me the chances are really minimal to even remotely keep up with the PS4 there.
NA I expect them to be close, even Xbone on top is more plausible imo but the marketshare not to be over 10% in anyone's favour. Of course Xbox fans like to talk about the "infinite potential", "almost unlimited" resources of MS that they can throw at the Xbox division and it will have ever exclusive, retail for peanuts and have huge marketing. But all this at what cost? Microsoft have shown in the later half of the 7th gen that profits are more important for them than marketshare. That's the way I see things playing out.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
