Maxis wants you to mod SimCity, but only if you play by their draconian rules
CommentMaxis apparently really wants people to mod SimCity, according to a recent blog post encouraging the modding community to grow. When I think of SimCity, I rarely think of freedom and creativity, with its weird limitations and restrictions, but that doesn't mean modders have to be so restricted.
I'm joking, of course, because Maxis has a bunch of caveats for modders, a list of rules, which they hope will ensure "the safety and integrity of the SimCity experience". The sound you're hearing is my head smashing through my desk and sending my mouse, selection of brightly-coloured pens and slighty-too-full ashtray flying across the room.
Torchlight II free until Sunday on Steam, you'd be mad not to play it
Comments1I'm rather fond of Torchlight II. So much so, that I put it on my best PC RPG list, a decision that I'm going to call "divisive" because that seems better than "made people think I was gargling paint thinner".
Instead of apologising for not putting Diablo in the list instead, I'm just going to direct you to Torchlight II's free weekend on Steam. If you're diligent, you can probably finish an entire playthrough in one weekend, so that's nice.
Classroom Aquatic is an Oculus Rift powered cheat ’em up. Also, your classmates are dolphins
CommentThe Oculus Rift is already pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the computer. Games genres we never knew existed are coming to the fore. Classroom Aquatic is the first example I know of a cheat ‘em up.
The set up is that your teacher is throwing a pop quiz and you’re not prepared. You’ll have to cheat your way through it. If you’ve got an Oculus Rift then you can look around the room and lean over to copy other students’ answers. Also, you’re class is underwater and your classmates are dolphins.
Spy Party bugs invite Cthulhu to the gathering
CommentYou may have heard of Spy Party. The two-player game where one person’s a spy trying to fit in at a gathering while acting out their secret mission of planting bugs and stealing documents. The other player has the job of working out who the spy is. Then they shoot them with their sniper rifle.
What you might not have heard is that after the sniper has shot their target the scene takes a nightmarish turn with party guests rising into the air, their heads rotating on an unnatural point, eyelids pulling out from their faces, and joints popping like someone run through a mangle.
