| spemanig said: The PS4's "Perfect Day" add is one of the best I've ever seen. Hire those guys. Last year was the year for casuals. This year, they need to make the Wii U look "cool." http://youtu.be/59gY8iJ4DWw That is a link to the 2004 E3 conference. If Nintendo advertises the Wii U in this light, it WILL look "cool." They need to get back to kickin' ass, taking names, and making games. Games with "big stars and big explosions." Note how they were still very much the console "for everyone," but they were trying too look cool as opposed to friendly. Star Fox: Assault was advertised as"Back with a vengeance" with "More rockets, more blasters, more combat than ever before. The countdown begins this November." It made the game look epic. And cool. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes "Into the light, a darkness grows. Into the darkness, a hero returns. Out of the darkness a creature is born. Hunter or hunted? This November, power up for the ultimate battle between good and evil. Let there be light." That was the line of text that narrated the reveal trailer. Epic. Cool. Then they revealed RE4. "We like games so scary, they keep you up at night." That's three AAA "hardcore" games announced within the first five minutes of the press conference. The whole thing had this cocky swagger about it. They were clearly in last place, yet they clearly won that E3 and they new they would. We need THAT Nintendo flare in the 2014 adds. Bayonetta 2 and Monolith Soft X NEED a stronger push and a "cooler" advertising model. Maybe an ad for Bayonetta 2 where a mother walks in on her son playing the game. The is appalled by the obscene amounts of sex and gore in the game and over reacts in a comical way while the son triumphantly plays on. The slogan would be "Bayonetta 2: Mothers hate it. Gamers love it. Only on Wii U." Or a Xenoblade 2 add shot inside of two vehicles. The drivers are obviously in a fast adrenaline filled race and they are exchanging commands between each other but then the camera zooms out and it's actually two "Doll" robot they're piloting. They transform and begin to attack the opponent, then gameplay is shown. How about a Mario Kart/Super Smash Bros add like this. It shows four little kids sitting on a couch. They are all screaming at each other angrily with N64 controllers in their hands. Gameplay from the original Smash Bros/Mario Kart 64 on an old school TV plays during the scene. The next scene shows the same four kids, now tweens, angrily screaming and arguing again, this time with Gamecube controllers in their hands. This time with Melee/Double Dash. Fast forward to the same four kids, now older teens. Wii Remotes and Mario Kart Wii/Brawl. The final "scene" will have the four in college with four Wii U Pro Controllers/Wii Remotes/Gamepad. Still dramatic and angry. Now with Mario Kart 8/Smash. The whole thing is meant to look over dramatic. Popcorn is thrown. Soda is spilt. Maybe someone cries. The screen shuts to black and a narrator reads either "Mario Kart: Destroying friendships since 1997. One more race? Only on Wii U" or "Super Smash Bros: Smashing friendships since 1999. One more round? Only one Wii U." Same thing with games like Watch_Dogs, Project CARS, and Hyrule Warriors. Just advertise them as "cool" games for the "cool" Wii U that has even "cooler" games. |
You got some great ideas for ads! Especially the Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros advert you stated. I can imagine the narrator saying at the end,"Are U ready?". Or the gamers playing the games ask, "Wii are ready, but are U?"
