We just had a discussion about this just a few weeks ago. Everything is an estimate. Is saying 2.9 million sold through vs 3.0 million sold through that big of a leap? And it's not as if their numbers are 100% accurate to begin with. They might've actually sold over 3 mil...
Now if they SHIPPED 3 mil and said they sold through 3 mil, than that's another issue; because they're assuming they sold out their stock (which many have been quick to point out isn't the case).
We don't know anything yet and shouldn't treat this like we do.
