The Uncharted series is a lot like Nolan's Batman series, to me:
The first was a new, fresh entry that captivated people. Then the second broke every standard imaginable and set the bar way too high. Then the third, while still really good, couldn't possibly match the standard the second set, so it felt relatively "inferior". But because it tried to match the greatness of the second, it ended up better than the first.
