They better make a profit, or else what is the point? I heard it is profitable after one game, sounds plausible.

Profitable on a SALES minus COST OF SALES basis only.  They have mouths to feed too (r&d, marketing, sales, admin, etc.)... over $1.7 billion annually in fact.  Nintendo is likely losing $0.5 billion give-or-take annually on it's Wii U business.
