The PS4 is focused on a different market. I think introducing a gimmick like kinect later in the gen when the system is cheaper makes more sense.

The PS4 camera is pretty much Kinect lite. Just look at Playroom.

Controlling software waving your limbs around inaccurately just isn't fun unless you're playing a very narrow variety of games. Kinect needs buttons of some sort. But that would take away the very reasoning behind it from Microsoft's marketing.

PS Move is the best motion controls I've used, it basically takes the Wii Motion Plus set up and improves on it a bit removing the joining wire. But it still doesn't match using a traditional controller for most games.

The PS4 Camera can do the majority of things the first Kinect could, but that doesn't make it a kinect copy. It primarily serves a completely different purpose: being a camera. The playroom uses it as a camera, game streaming uses it as a camera, and auto-login uses it as a camera. The only released game that uses it in the same fashion as Kinect is Just Dance 2014. There's also voice commands but those can be done through the included PS4 ear piece.

The relationship between the DS4 and the cam is really cool and I was kinda sad when it ended up not being bundled. It basically takes the best of kinect and the best of move and combines them. Buttons, motion controller tracking, and basic body tracking. With the huge success of the PS4 Camera thanks to game streaming, hopefully this experience will get lots of support.

It's still not the same as things like kinect, the wiimote, and the balance board. For the most part the PS4 camera is being used as an additive feature, instead of a primary feature. In my opinion at least it's in the same boat as rumble, six-axis, vita rear-touch, the DS4 touchpad, and speakers on controllers.

Also since you like move, you might be happy to know the motion tracking is even better with the PS4 camera.
