Should SONY go beyond third party?

If you're not making money or losing billions you have to question why bother in this endeavor. The op may be joking, but in all honesty Sony probably would be the most likely candidate to go third party. They are already heavily dependent on third party support. If that support wasn't there Sony could not sustain itself in this business. 

Sony is profitting off of every Blu Ray player and they have been profitting off of the PS3 for some years now. I think you are talking about the Vita.

Bluray royalties are very minimal. And certainly didn't help their financial disaster in any meaningful way. Vitas atrocious market performance doesn't help much either. But no, I was talking about the ps3. The system was a financial disaster. You disagree?

Also, if the system lossed 6b dollars and netted a profit of half a million it's still 5.5b in the red. That's not good. 

Their royalties aren't minimal in the long run, just to eyes that expect maximum profits to come front loaded. Kaz Hirai is touted as the man who saved the Playstation from a disasterous breakdown, which is why he is the head of Sony now. The Playstation brand is fine, the Vita just needs to be dropped.
