Sony is all about vertical integration. They can't just ditch a division. 

I can't even count how many billions they've lost on the TV line. Their gaming, movies, mobile and music divisions are all doing pretty well, but their TVs are what's bringing them down and will continue to do so. Most shareholders aren't going to care that PS4 is selling extremely well, or that the Xperia is doing great, all eyes are on the TV division. 

All eyes are on because sony's tvs are still successfull, despite the loss. But they highly contribute sony's success in gaming, entertainment, mobile etc.

A 3 seconds TV commercial showing a company's logo cost millions. What about having the logo right below your screen the whole time you watch TV ? That's the best advertising, invading people's home.
