3ds had a better chance with no games than ps4. The japanese people have shown they will not pay money for a system over 200. The vita which is going to have better support than ps4 in Japan couldn't at the price of 3ds original price and was stronger. If you look at ps4 launch barely has any Japanese games and those that are on ps3. Remind you of something? Psp vs Vita. If you look post launch the system is having a bad drought. If anything looking at the decline of homo consoles and debt in Japan a 400 dollar console which forces 50 for only play doesn't look attractive. Why are people pretending that Japan is going crazy like the west over the ps4. Japan unlike other places lives and dies by the games and price.
Ps4 has neither. Sony themselves realized this.
